The difference between optical glass and ordinary glass

There are significant differences between optical glass and ordinary glass, mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Optical glass: mainly made of borosilicate glass or quartz glass, these materials are special materials designed for the production of optical instruments, with high purity requirements for raw materials and low levels of harmful impurities.

Ordinary glass: made from raw materials such as sand (mainly composed of silicon dioxide), limestone, soda ash, etc., with relatively simple composition, mainly used for building ventilation and light transmission.

2. Processing technology

Optical glass: Production requires high precision and strict quality inspection requirements, with a complex processing process that requires high-level technology and sophisticated equipment, as well as high temperature control and fine processing techniques.

Ordinary glass: relatively easy to process, can be made into different shapes by melting, extruding or molding.

3. Performance Performance

Optical glass: It has high transparency, high hardness, stable mechanical and optical properties, such as high refractive index, low dispersion, good imaging quality, and good performance in ultraviolet and infrared radiation.

Ordinary glass: has relatively low transparency and poor uniformity, and may deform when passing through light. Data deviation and error may occur when collecting images.

4. Application Fields

Optical glass: mainly used in the manufacturing of lenses, prisms, mirrors, windows, etc. for optical instruments or mechanical systems, with strict requirements for optical performance in application scenarios.

Ordinary glass: used in buildings for wind insulation and light transmission, and can also be made into colored glass, tempered glass, etc. for different industries.
